Essential Oils seem to be all the rage lately. There seem to be two companies that hold the fort down in this department (Young Living and DoTerra), and I’ve been fortunate enough to try oils from each of these companies, thanks to two very sweet readers who happen to be consultants!
Most recently, one of my sweet readers, Kira, sent me a diffuser and a bunch of oils to try out. I had never tried a diffuser before…I’ve only tried essential oils using drops on my pillow at night (lavender), on my skin (peppermint for a pick-me-up) or in the bathtub (lavender again…it’s my fav!).
I’ve been using these oils and the diffuser for the last several weeks, and I’ve noticed great results! Here are my three favorite ways to use them:
-
Lavender for Sleep
This seems like such a no-brainer…and it really is! I’ve used drops of lavender oil on my pillow before bed, but I’ve been concerned with the oil staining my pillow cases. Lavender is by far my absolute favorite oil; like I mentioned above, I also use it in the bath tub for a really relaxing bubble bath! (Although with a toddler…trust me, those lavender bubble baths are few and far between!!)
-
RC for a Cold
While testing the diffuser, I got a respiratory cold, and immediately reached out to Kira for help. I mean, isn’t this what oils are best for?! 😉 Kira suggested using the RC oil that came with the kit she sent, and while it didn’t miraculously take away my cold, I got a MUCH better night’s rest while diffusing it. RC is a blend of Spruce, Cypress and Eucalyptus oils. Personally, I believe the Eucalyptus is one of the reasons it helped clear my sinuses and help me sleep better!.

Lemon Oil in Water
Kira suggested using a couple drops of lemon oil in my water as a powerful antioxidant. The Lemon Oil is cold pressed from lemon rinds, and is safe to consume. I’m more of a ‘real-lemon-in-my-water’ person, but there are so many times that I don’t have real lemons on hand! I tried this one out, and I really enjoyed the taste, and now carry this oil in my workout bag to add some instant lemon flavor to my water when I’m working out!
Overall, my experience with oils has been a positive one. I’ve loved the oils I’ve tried, and discovering new ways to use these oils has been really fun. It’s amazing how something so simple can help cure a headache, or make me refocus and de-stress! There’s still a lot for me to discover, but I do believe that essential oils I’ve tried have made a difference in my sleep and overall health! What do you use oils for? If you have any favorite tips and tricks, share them below!
