Since becoming a mom, I have to say that taking care of my teeth went WAY downhill. I swear I brushed my teeth like twice in the first 2 months after having my daughter!! It’s so not like me…I used to always brush my teeth twice a day, and I used whitening strips to make them whiter. Now, I’m lucky if I brush my teeth twice (ok, once) a day, and whitening? FORGET IT! …Until Smile Brilliant sent me an email and asked if I’d be interested in trying out their kit! I’ve seen some amazing results from Smile Brilliant, so of course I was super excited to try it out.
My husband and I both received kits in the mail, and were really excited to see the inside of the box. At first glance, it seems pretty scientific. There’s lots of little jars, envelopes, etc, but it’s super easy to create your mold! Wait. Mold?! Back up! YES–Smile Brilliant creates a mold of your teeth–almost like a clear retainer–for you to do your teeth whitening in! So cool right?!
Aren’t the strips just as good?!
Short answer? No. I might have thought so, had I not tried these custom fitted trays!! Back when I used to use the strips, they would fall off, I couldn’t talk, the stuff kept oozing out, I had perpetual slobber coming out of my mouth, and I had to do it away from society where I could sit by myself with a paper towel to spit out my whitening-gel-drool. Oh God it wasn’t pretty. That’s a true story. It was disturbing. Luckily my husband never saw that or I probably wouldn’t be married…
So how does it work then?
Anyway, you easily create the mold of your teeth by mixing a blue and white putty together, and then as if you’re creating a mouth guard (come on, you remember that! Heat it up in boiling water, then bite down?!) you bite into the mold. Once everything dries, you package up your molds in pre-paid envelopes, and send them off to Smile Brilliant to create your mold.
When you get your kit in the mail, it comes with your new molds, a case, whitening gel and desensitizing gel in case you over-did it with the whitening stuff!
You simply inject the whitening gel into your custom molded tray, and leave it in for as long as you’d like, up to 3 hours.
Hopefully you’re having a better hair day than I am….Hey…when you work all day and finally find time to whiten your teeth at night, this is as good as it gets, ladies and gents!!
I did mine for around an hour, and I did about 10 treatments. Use your molds and your gel until you’re happy with how your teeth look.
What if you have sensitive teeth?
Not a problem! Smile Brilliant send special desensitizing gel with your kit so that your teeth won’t get that awful feeling on your teeth if you’re prone to it! Simply use that gel for about 10-20 minutes with your mold, and you’re good to go!
I’m so not photogenic in any way, but if I was (and not scared to death of seeing myself on a video), I’d do a YouTube video…luckily, there’s plenty of people who rock at YouTube videos; here’s a really cute girl named Kelli who has an awesome video already made of her review on Smile Brilliant–check it out here if you want to watch and see everything being done on a video!
Anyway, here are my results, and my husband’s results. We were both super happy with the ease of use, convenience and the end result! My favorite part of this process was that I could work, talk, do my regular day-to-day stuff with the mold in. It didn’t hinder my lifestyle at all, even though I had the molds in for longer than you’d have a strip on. Like I said, I did 10 treatments (and left the mold in for about an hour each time). I will definitely keep whitening my teeth to see how white they can get!
