Meal time is getting more exciting over here now that Little Bear is eating solids! She’s currently loving her puffs, Gerber lil’ bits, and of course anything I chew up and give to her (#noshame).
I’ve really enjoyed testing out what works (and what doesn’t!) for baby meal times. First, I can tell you what doesn’t work: bowls that are fragile. This might seem obvious, but before we had baby bowls, I was using some of our china bowls for her food. Not a good idea!! As I type this now, I realize how dumb it sounds, that I used some of our Spode china bowls for her food….
We found some amazing items, but these three from Nuby have been some of my favorites:
- The Sure Grip Miracle Mat Feeding Placemat
- The Sure Grip Suction Bowl
- Silicone Spoons
All of the items are BPA free silicone, and are dishwasher safe (yay)!

The Sure Grip Miracle Mat Feeding Placemat
OMG. This thing ROCKS. We’ve tried a couple placemats—one that has a trough-like slot for food to drop onto it, and one that’s just a plain placemat. This is seriously the most awesome thing for meals, and I’m so glad Nuby is giving one away to a lucky reader!
Simply place this mat on the table and you’re good to go. It doesn’t slide around, and I love that I can just throw her puffs into one of the sections. The silicone is super thick (and it’s a heavier mat), and just wipes clean. It’s also dishwasher safe, which is fabulous. I also love that this is going to stick with me for a while—Bear will always need a placemat, and the integrated sections on the plate base allow me to use it for puffs that she can grab now, but in the future, I’ll be able to separate veggies, fruits, meats, etc, all in these great little sections!
The Sure Grip Suction Bowl
I’ve been using this silicone bowl EVERY day for Bear’s cereal. It suctions onto the table which is great for keeping it in place in case she tries to grab at her bowl! As with the placemat, this bowl will be multi-functional as she grows up, and I can see this continuing to be a staple with anything you can put in a bowl! Ice cream, scrambled eggs, adult cereal…you name it, I’ll be using this bowl for it!
Silicone Spoons
We have a TON of baby spoons, but I was so excited to try these because they’re unlike any other spoon we’ve got! The tip of the spoon as you can see in the picture below, is super flexible, which makes it very easy on your baby’s teething gums.
She loves to chew on the ends, and is starting to feed herself…which means she’s not very good at it, and smacks herself in the face. I like knowing that if she’s smacking herself in the face with her spoon, she’s at least using a spoon that has a soft end; not a super hard one! I’ve also tried eating from these spoons and I love them. I don’t know why, but a softer spoon is just more enjoyable! Hehe
Thanks to Nuby for sponsoring this post. All opinions are my own.
