If you’re looking for a new way to pack your family members’ lunches while away at work, daycare or school, look no further than the PlanetBox family of eco-friendly, stainless steel lunch boxes! I first discovered these boxes a few years ago, and had the pleasure of working with PlanetBox on this review and giveaway. Read on for my review of the PlanetBox Rover, and don’t forget to enter the giveaway at the end of the post for a PlanetBox Shuttle!
PlanetBox has 3 different size lunch boxes, all designed with efficiency and quality as top of mind. The three box styles are listed below, as showcased from PlanetBox’s website. This chart shows you what size box you might want to look for:
The Rover is the medium sized PlanetBox, with 5 compartments that are perfect for a sandwich, and some other snacky goodies like a cheese stick, crackers, fruit slices or nuts. The little middle compartment is great for a little dessert snack; I fit two gummy lifesavers in there for this lunch, but only because there was no chocolate laying around the house! (My favorite dessert is usually a square of Lindt’s 90% dark chocolate!)
The boxes come with some stainless steel dipper containers and silicon lids. These are perfect for some ranch dressing for some veggie sticks, a side salad in the larger dipper container, or maybe some granola as a snack when the 3pm hunger strike hits.
One of my favorite things about the boxes is that there are customizable magnets for the tops of the box! I chose the unicorn magnets, because they were just too cute. But if magical mythical creatures aren’t your thing, they’ve got stars, dinosaurs, fairies, dogs, horses, and many more! And if you really can’t find one you like, you can custom design your own!
Now let’s talk about the case that you can purchase along with your PlanetBox. The inside part has a slot that’s perfect for an ice pack to keep your lunch contents cold, and the outside of the case has a pouch for a water bottle or juice box, and a compartment next to it for anything extra (a note from mom, some condiment packets, etc.).
Some other benefits of the PlanetBox line include:
- They’re BPA-Free
- It’s designed to hold sensible portion sizes…no worrying about over-indulging!
- It’s dishwasher safe (hallelujah because I hate things that aren’t)
- They’re built to LAST. The high quality stainless steel is warrantied for 5 years!
And lastly, my very favorite part of the box is in this video below. Notice how I shake it around and everything inside STILL stays put?! This might not be super great for an adult taking the box to work, but if your child is taking it to school, it’s great to know that this box can get tossed all over the place and everything stays put! I think it’s brilliant that it can go in the dishwasher! My son doesn’t like his food to touch (of course!), so this looks like such a good solution.
Meredith says
Yes, it would be great! The food doesn’t transfer at all! And yes, I honestly wouldn’t even touch anything I couldn’t throw in the dishwasher!! HAHA!!
